If I had to pick an AGS favorite it would be A Tale of Two Kingdoms, which wins my award hands down, because it reminds me of Sierra’s masterpiece Conquest of the Long Bow: The Legend of Robinhood, which haunted my days and nights as a teenager. Not that Two Kingdoms would come close to being anything as good as Conquest of the Long Bow, in fact there will never be any medieval adventure game that would meet the standards. … More…

Augmented Reality has been the buzz lately, and as iPhone SDK 3.1 started to support Augmented Reality Games, Developers like myself become quite excited at the prospect of the future. We can envision a future when everyone is looking at the rest of the world through their iPhone. Many things can be done in an augmented future, imagine connecting to Wikipedia just by looking through the screen at an object and finding all the information about it. This future could … More…

Widely known as one of the best video game ever, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is in fact not, but one of the worst games you have to play. And to not play it would be like not reading the last 10 pages of the book while everything culminates to the false promise of a climatic conclusion, and basically drop that ball on you and crushes you with that sour feeling. Metal Gear Solid 4 is like … More…

More than a decade ago Bullfrog released a quirky simulation called Dungeon Keeper. Bullfrog was the company that made the godly Populus and the intensive squad-based action game Syndicate, before Peter Molyneux was obsessed with the stupidity known as Fable and actually led some creative projects, before Bullfrog was assimilated into EA where talents ceased to exist, the industry has changed, war has changed, it felt like a lifetime ago.
The premise of Dungeon Keeper is simple, it is essentially Sim City where you … More…

I remember once my coworker told me she named her baby cousin Boba, because he was round and squishy, like a boba from a cup of Boba milk tea. Then I told her, do you not know what Boba means? She said she didn’t know.
So I told her the origin of the word, in Chinese, it is a term which describes a big-busted woman. So my coworker laughed it off, and I wonder if she still calls her cousin that.

I confess that at the office of AGG, we worship Tim Schaefer. So we could not have had higher hopes for Brutal Legend, Double Fine Production’s 2nd game, published by EA, designed by the legendary Tim Shaefer who brought us adventure favorites from the all time classic Day of Tentacle, beyond awesome Monkey Island, to the cinematic masterpiece Grim Fandango. So you can see we approached Brutal Legend with some kind of biased predisposition that it would be a godly … More…

I couldn’t resist telling that joke. Half-Minute Hero was a genuine and delightful surprise. One that blew us away (took just about half a minute) at our office at AGG, as a must-own game for the PSP. Developed by Opus and published by Marvelous and X-Seed, Half-Minute Hero on paper would be an experimental idea in game design, but in execution it is like a drug that brings you more than a half minute of rapture, as a matter of … More…

I mean every word of it in a good way. Demon’s Souls, published by From Software, exclusive for the PS3, is a challengingly difficult game, and difficult may be an understatement. Its ability to strenuously challenge the player is a double-edged sword. From Software crafted a masterpiece that distinguishes itself from the myriad of Action-RPG dungeon crawler clones out there, with intensive combat sequences, menacing colossal demons, towering Gothic structures and their dark medieval claustrophobic corridors, with its creepy phantoms … More…

Have you been anticipating Final Fantasy XIII ever since you saw the trailer? With all that hype built up I am pretty sure the actual game is going to disappoint but changes are you will pre-order it anyway. But hay, the character design looks sexy and that’s all it matters.
Today our sponsor Unitoyzone brings you the set of Play-Arts Figures, coming in the same month as the game. See their action on screen and act out your own scenes at … More…

If you could only play one 2D fighting game in your lifetime, King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match IS the game you would need to play. But if you didn’t know your fighting game history, chances are you won’t know enough, to care. Made by SNK, the King of Fighters series was never really popular in North America, but if you went to the local arcades in Asia, you would find rows of head-to-head arcade machine juxtaposing each other like … More…

I tried my best to dislike Kingdom Hearts 358/2 but I ended up appreciating the little things that it had to offer so in hindsight I would say it lay somewhere between a hidden gem of a game and a complete waste of time, or in layman’s terms, it simply isn’t too bad. Yes I admit it, I played it with some kind of biased disposition carried from Kingdom Hearts 2. To those who aren’t familiar with the game, the … More…

Since we will most likely not finish Lucidity, the new puzzle platformer on XBLA published by Lucasarts, we will have to post impressions instead. For months we had been keeping tabs on this game since it was developed by the studio who brought you the excellent Monkey Island Special Edition, this is the developer’s first original title. But after the long wait we were struck with utter disappointment. An idea that looks good on paper may not work at all … More…

The Witcher enhanced edition distracted me from programming, from writing, from eating… and among other things I don’t plan to talk about. Planescape Torment was the game that did all those things a decade ago. But to understand the Witcher, you don’t have to understand Torment, you simply have to know it as the best cRPG of the last decade. The Witcher is developed by the Polish developer – CD Projekt Red Studio, built on top of the Bioware Aurora … More…

Ragnarok, the battle of the end of the world, between Aesirs — pantheon of gods led by Odin, and the Vanir — fire giants led by Loki, and everything in the universe torn asunder, so that was told in Norse Mythology. Eight months before that, Valkyrie, death goddess is dropped onto Midgard(earth) to harvest souls, humans worthy to join the battle. You play Lenneth, In Valkyrie Profile, as she does the bidding of the gods, she discovers herself, and whether she … More…

Years ago I remembered getting a lot of questions about dating though I am not the one to give good advice. I remember telling my guy friends about this book, The Game, by Neil Strauss, about a writer who penetrated the society of pick-up artists and became a guru himself. While there are non-fiction that breaks attraction into science (all from a guy’s viewpoint), this is a fiction novel which is more entertaining for me, or anyone who is not … More…
