Many articles have already been written about Xenogears over the years. For those not familiar with the JRPG genre, the game was released by Squaresoft (now known as Square Enix) in 1998 for the Playstation, during a period of the US gaming scene which could be summarized by a single word: transition. Today I introduce this guest-written article for mainly the die-hard fans.
The 32 bit era
In the late 1990s, with Sony’s entrance into the gaming business, video games were being … More…

So you want to be a hero? I can’t believe it’s been almost 20 years since I started the first game in the series. Designed by Corey and Lori Ann Cole and published under Sierra, Quest For Glory (originally known as Hero’s Quest) series spanned 5 chapters. When I got the first game in its EGA version, I instantly fell in love with it, its game design ingenious, a perfect conglomeration of classic adventure and role-playing gameplay. It was the first … More…

You are probably wondering why a gaming site talk about Anime. It is simple, because Gintama (銀魂) should be on every gamer’s must-watch list. Gintama the anime is based on the serialized manga illustrated by Hideaki Sorachi, and its awesomeness is displayed by these 2 qualities, it’s ability to parody so many things in life, especially itself, and its versatility in being ultra hilarious and extremely serious, and how well it works switching in between those two. Appreciation of Gintama … More…

I intend to cover a few of AGS games here at AGG, for those who are not familiar with the term, AGS stands for Adventure Game Studio (as for AGG… ahem), and it is a tool for developers to develop point-and-click adventure games, which is my favorite genre, if you haven’t guessed already. AGS is a free development platform that has a easy-to-use editor and a run-time engine to play them, I haven’t used this but this could be useful … More…

I was a little late to this game last year when I discovered it, after that I probably lived like a zombie for the following 2 weeks because I found every waking moment to play it. I pretty much went out of my way to make every gamer I knew install Lazarus, and I was active on the online forum and even wrote a walkthru for it. I felt like a WOW addict minus the WOW part. But to me … More…

As our site expand we are actively trying to cover success story related to the Gaming Industry, especially people with an Asian background. Dr. Arnold Kim is the founder (or co-founding member) of MacRumors, TouchArcade, and AppShopper. He was blogging for 8 years before he recently quit his career as a MD, covered by The New York Times article titled My Son, the Blogger: An M.D. Trades Medicine for Apple Rumors. On answering a question of how to make money, … More…

Our first AGG Gamer Profile, 鳥越 乃亜, Lady Noa, is a Japanese AV actress that blogs about her gaming live. She plays a lot of Western games like Fable series, Fallout 3, and Left 4 Dead and writes a lot of insightful blogs about how the gaming industry has changed. Her writings are actually quite intelligent and fun but only if you read Japanese. She is probably one of the few Porn stars that actually play games, despite what they … More…

Finally had time to put my hands on Scribblenauts last night (I admit, the DS has collected a bit of dust after my Layton rush-through session). If you haven’t heard about it already, Scribblenauts is 5th Cell’s innovative puzzle game for the DS, where you help Maxwell (but I will call him Scribby) collect the Starite (And I will just call it Star), to pass each level. Scribby gets your help by items you create for him, which you do … More…

Back in 1991 there was a gem of an adventure game called the Day of the Tentacle. Was I only 2 back then? No, maybe I was just a tad bit older than that. Those were the days, when I worshiped something called the Sound Blaster card and it cost almost 300 bucks and games came in Floppies and I used my modem to dial onto the BBS just to play Text-based RPGs with my friends and a 256 color … More…

f JetFable hasn’t dissuaded you from entering the App market, here are some genuinely good tips from Imagini Studios (Maker of Harbor Master) posted in TouchArcade. It makes a good read but to sum it up for you lazy bums:
1) Fast Prototyping
2) Icons (Just look at the LOVE that went into the Icon design)

Your first foray into the app store, blunder is probably the more appropriate word. In this series of articles, I am going to discourage you from trying… kidding. I am actually going to share my experiences and insight from my own development of Summation and upcoming projects, and try my best to help.
1) If you are doing this to get rich, give up now. The app store is already flooded with shovelware, and occasionally even good titles just don’t catch … More…

Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor – 5 out of 4 stars
I was kidding about the stars. The first official AGG iPhone Game review, except I tend to think of these as anecdotes of my favorite past-time, not a review, for an actual review please go to a more reputed (yet infinitely less awesome) site where a game like this would get a 8.9 (where are they deducting the points from?).
Just 2 things:
1) This game is Castlevania meets Bad Mojo. … More…

I was working on the Editorial Calender tonight, took a break and browsed my favorite gaming sites, stopped when I saw this, and went, Holy Cow, how is this actually done? It almost look as good as the actual CG render in Advent Children (The sword must have given it away), even if some degree of godly Photoshop skill was involved. Girls, even if Cosplay was totally geeky, tell me you don’t want to chew on this.

Have you guys seen Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog? If you haven’t, go watch that on youtube, which features fellow Gamer Girl Felicia Day.
Listen to this song, which was in the Commentary, and read the funny lyrics here. Back in the days this was really true, Asians just weren’t cool enough. Remember Kung Fu the TV series, they turned down Bruce Lee and David Carradine for the role. Folks, were you even born back then yet? If not you can catch … More…

Does anyone not notice how bad these games actually are? I am somewhat of a douche bag when it comes to criticizing the 2 companies which kick started the whole 2D Fighting genre and their newest efforts in “rebooting” this genre back into our lives. If I were a professional reviewer for a reputed site, I’d be fired. Why is everything rebooted like Hollywood has lost all its creative originality? We barely saw the first Spiderman within this decade and … More…
