We’ve been looking forward to Mass Effect 2 for a while, since we were really impressed with the first one — it told a great Science Fiction story with great atmosphere and gameplay. Mass Effect 2 improves upon the original, gameplay-wise, it takes out menial long elevator rides, driving sequences, managing items and equipments, juvenile hacking/unlocking mini-games, a bunch of things that didn’t really bother us that much the first time around — and made the game more like a … More…

Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes came as a pleasant surprise, that we never did keep taps of this game, and that when it arrived in our hands along with Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Clash of Heroes captured our undivided attention that we totally ignored the anticipated Legend of Zelda. Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes, published by Ubisoft, developed by Capybara Games, is a strategy RPG game on the DS. Clash of Heroes is so unique that there’s nothing exactly … More…

We rarely review a game twice but we fell in love with Dragon Age Origins, even more so on our 2nd run, and thought we would break this rule and write another article about it. Be forewarned that the following article will contain spoilers, as a matter of fact it will contain nothing but spoilers. If you are not ready for it (which means you haven’t played the game), read our first relatively spoiler-free review. How do we end up … More…

We knew that when we got our hands on Dragon Age: Origins, we would not be able to do anything else for 60 hours except eat and sleep and basic lavatory needs, barely even that. Developed by Bioware, Dragon Age: Origins, is exactly what a cRPG fan would expect if he WAS a fan of Bioware, but what cRPG fan would not be a fan, because for a decade or so it seemed like it was the only company making … More…

I couldn’t resist telling that joke. Half-Minute Hero was a genuine and delightful surprise. One that blew us away (took just about half a minute) at our office at AGG, as a must-own game for the PSP. Developed by Opus and published by Marvelous and X-Seed, Half-Minute Hero on paper would be an experimental idea in game design, but in execution it is like a drug that brings you more than a half minute of rapture, as a matter of … More…

I mean every word of it in a good way. Demon’s Souls, published by From Software, exclusive for the PS3, is a challengingly difficult game, and difficult may be an understatement. Its ability to strenuously challenge the player is a double-edged sword. From Software crafted a masterpiece that distinguishes itself from the myriad of Action-RPG dungeon crawler clones out there, with intensive combat sequences, menacing colossal demons, towering Gothic structures and their dark medieval claustrophobic corridors, with its creepy phantoms … More…

The Witcher enhanced edition distracted me from programming, from writing, from eating… and among other things I don’t plan to talk about. Planescape Torment was the game that did all those things a decade ago. But to understand the Witcher, you don’t have to understand Torment, you simply have to know it as the best cRPG of the last decade. The Witcher is developed by the Polish developer – CD Projekt Red Studio, built on top of the Bioware Aurora … More…

Ragnarok, the battle of the end of the world, between Aesirs — pantheon of gods led by Odin, and the Vanir — fire giants led by Loki, and everything in the universe torn asunder, so that was told in Norse Mythology. Eight months before that, Valkyrie, death goddess is dropped onto Midgard(earth) to harvest souls, humans worthy to join the battle. You play Lenneth, In Valkyrie Profile, as she does the bidding of the gods, she discovers herself, and whether she … More…

Many articles have already been written about Xenogears over the years. For those not familiar with the JRPG genre, the game was released by Squaresoft (now known as Square Enix) in 1998 for the Playstation, during a period of the US gaming scene which could be summarized by a single word: transition. Today I introduce this guest-written article for mainly the die-hard fans.
The 32 bit era
In the late 1990s, with Sony’s entrance into the gaming business, video games were being … More…

So you want to be a hero? I can’t believe it’s been almost 20 years since I started the first game in the series. Designed by Corey and Lori Ann Cole and published under Sierra, Quest For Glory (originally known as Hero’s Quest) series spanned 5 chapters. When I got the first game in its EGA version, I instantly fell in love with it, its game design ingenious, a perfect conglomeration of classic adventure and role-playing gameplay. It was the first … More…

I was a little late to this game last year when I discovered it, after that I probably lived like a zombie for the following 2 weeks because I found every waking moment to play it. I pretty much went out of my way to make every gamer I knew install Lazarus, and I was active on the online forum and even wrote a walkthru for it. I felt like a WOW addict minus the WOW part. But to me … More…
