It’s that time of the year that we are going to reflect upon the games we have played over the year 2010, without those contrived best-of / worst-of lists that everyone is already sick of, we have a list of the disappointments, the excellence, and what falls in between.
The Bad:
Crackdown 2 — A few years ago we played an excellent game called Crackdown. And a few months ago we were playing the exact same game, with worse graphics and gameplay.

It’s been a little over a year since Little Big Planet emerged and brought life to the stale PS3 online community. For the first 2 months it was out, my girlfriend and I played it incessantly, and for almost a year it has been collecting dust on the cabinet shelf under our TV. The Sackies – Level of the Year, brought my attention back to adorable Sackboy and his fantastic world of LBP. I can’t with a good conscience call … More…

It has only been 3 months since the launch of AGG and so we are not going to make it a tradition that we are going to, for example, list the top 10 games in 2009 for each platform, nor are we going to name a game of the year, I bet you can go to other gaming websites for that. For that is pointless, if there were 20 good games in 2009, as a dedicated gamer you would be … More…

We aren’t big nonfiction readers but over the years we have recommended a few books to others, Freakonomics and its sequel SuperFreakonomics being one of them. Humans respond to incentive — that is the underlying theme of this series by authors / economists Stephen Levitt and Stephen Dubner. Those of us at AGG will now apply the theory of Freakonomics to software piracy, a phenomenon that has existed since the dawn of personal computers and predated the Internet, an abnormality … More…

Over the years we had been assuming that how good a game was is totally unrelated to how long it was, and we thought that the world would agree with us. But that was not the case as we have learned from various articles and review scores, and simply people we knew, that their decision of purchasing a game, and the worth of their purchase, is directly proportional to the hours they get out of it. We didn’t understand why. … More…

Many so-called Video Game Journalists has speculated on the failure of Xbox 360 in Japan and has blamed it on xenophobia and I assume they actually know what the word means with their limited college education and average intelligence. Those of us at AGG know exactly why, not because we are smart and insightful and are real writers instead of stupid journalists, we ARE all those and more, but that’s besides the point, it is because we are Asian. Anyone … More…

I remember once my coworker told me she named her baby cousin Boba, because he was round and squishy, like a boba from a cup of Boba milk tea. Then I told her, do you not know what Boba means? She said she didn’t know.
So I told her the origin of the word, in Chinese, it is a term which describes a big-busted woman. So my coworker laughed it off, and I wonder if she still calls her cousin that.

Years ago I remembered getting a lot of questions about dating though I am not the one to give good advice. I remember telling my guy friends about this book, The Game, by Neil Strauss, about a writer who penetrated the society of pick-up artists and became a guru himself. While there are non-fiction that breaks attraction into science (all from a guy’s viewpoint), this is a fiction novel which is more entertaining for me, or anyone who is not … More…

I was working on the Editorial Calender tonight, took a break and browsed my favorite gaming sites, stopped when I saw this, and went, Holy Cow, how is this actually done? It almost look as good as the actual CG render in Advent Children (The sword must have given it away), even if some degree of godly Photoshop skill was involved. Girls, even if Cosplay was totally geeky, tell me you don’t want to chew on this.

Have you guys seen Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog? If you haven’t, go watch that on youtube, which features fellow Gamer Girl Felicia Day.
Listen to this song, which was in the Commentary, and read the funny lyrics here. Back in the days this was really true, Asians just weren’t cool enough. Remember Kung Fu the TV series, they turned down Bruce Lee and David Carradine for the role. Folks, were you even born back then yet? If not you can catch … More…

Was there some kind of transmogrification that happened in the last decade that Asian Girls suddenly became a hit among Westerners? Is it because of the silky hair, smooth skin, and mainly, looking like eighteen when we are thirty? Is it the Media (or is it video games)? I can’t recall the numerous times I’ve been hit on when I sat alone at a restaurant bar, people came to pester you even when all I thought about was only my … More…

Looks like I am kick starting this site off with this question. What is a gamer? If you only played WOW, then are you a gamer? What about if you only played Mafia and Bejeweled on Facebook? Flight Control on the iphone? What if you played games but didn’t know the definition of DLC and MMORPG, the difference between Trophies and Achievements? What if you only read about games and hardly play them? Is there a need for this term … More…
