2009 – A Year in Review

xmasIt has only been 3 months since the launch of AGG and so we are not going to make it a tradition that we are going to, for example, list the top 10 games in 2009 for each platform, nor are we going to name a game of the year, I bet you can go to other gaming websites for that. For that is pointless, if there were 20 good games in 2009, as a dedicated gamer you would be obliged to play all of them. So here it is, in our own words and opinions, what we thought of 2009:

The most Enjoyable Experiences of 2009: Dragon Age Origins (PC), Half-Minute Hero (PSP)

The biggest surprises (Good ones): Infamous (PS3), Batman: Arkham Asylum (PS3), Saboteur (360), Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor (iPhone), Flower (PS3), Scribblenauts (DS), Trine (PC), Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes (DS)

The games that exceeded expectation: Assassin’s Creed 2 (360), The Tales of Monkey Island (PC), Grand Theft Auto: China Town Wars (DS)

The games that disappointed but looked gorgeously so while doing it: Uncharted 2 (PS3), Shadow Complex (360)

The biggest disappointments that actually really disappointed: Ghostbusters (360),  Brutal Legend (360), Lucidity (360), Noby Noby Boy (PS3), King of Fighters XII (360)

The games that landed right on our high expectation: PixelJunk Shooter (PS3), Monkey Island SE (360),  The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Track (DS), Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon (PS2), The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match (PS2 / Arcade)

The game we cursed so much at but still ended up finishing and loving it: Demon’s Souls (PS3)

The genre we are officially sick of: SandBox GTA Clones (with or without superhuman powers)

And here are the 4 most popular articles of AGG in 2009:

1) Xenogears: a Different Retrospective

2) Zen Review: The Blackwell Trilogy

3) The Witcher is the Planescape Torment of this Decade

4) Lazarus: An Ultima Fan’s Ultimate Wet Dream

And finally, Merry Xmas and Happy New Year!
