As our site expand we are actively trying to cover success story related to the Gaming Industry, especially people with an Asian background. Dr. Arnold Kim is the founder (or co-founding member) of MacRumors, TouchArcade, and AppShopper. He was blogging for 8 years before he recently quit his career as a MD, covered by The New York Times article titled My Son, the Blogger: An M.D. Trades Medicine for Apple Rumors. On answering a question of how to make money, he said that, “That’s it. If you have a site that attracts a lot of visitors, you will be able to make money. On the Internet, traffic equals power, which subsequently equals money.”
We here at AGG are actually quite impressed with people who’s studied Medicine but gave it up for their true calling (like the Bioware founders), especially among old-fashioned Asian family, we know of many that went into Medicine just because that was what their parents wanted. Sometimes it wasn’t about the money, but really the respect, and how would you tell your parents now that you blog for a living? You better be bringing in 6 figures like Dr.Kim, or your parents will be disowning you.
Arnold still blogs regularly on Normalkid.com and actually mentions a lot of good advice for developers, like how to access your risk involved in quitting your day job to be an iPhone developer. You can also follow him on Twitter.
